Although sales performance of the whole US sporting-goods market is not so well in 2008, we still heard some comforting news here. Such as Jarden Corp, they have the confidence to increase its sales in coming season . The management team are expecting $5 billion total turnover & 250 million net income in 2009.

On the contrary, some retailers’ sales expectations for the new quarter don’t seem so optimistic. The management from Dick’s Sporting Goods predicate store sales will be decreased about 8% to 12% .  But the leader from Jarden decided to develop new products and open more new stores this year to turn around the situation. The reason for success by Jarden comes down to product variety, new ideas and brand value. Besides world famous fishing brands, the business scope of Jarden covers camping, outdoor sportswear and household products. And outdoor field will bring $2.5 billion in yearly sales. Among it, sales from retailers will account for 37%.  Although there was still a drop of 8% on net sales for the 4th quarter in 2008 compared to the same time in 2007, Looking at the overall performance in 2008, Net sales still rose 16%.  The leaders from Jarden believed the diversity of products and brands would help them to win and get more business from the competition. The success result lead Jarden to accelerate investments in new products development and brands enhancement , even they have to cut down other expenses, such like salaries. They were aware of the serious business situation in short term, but they believed Jarden would be developed in a positive direction so that better sales performance will be continued with current business model.
